Hello to all of my new friends and welcome to those of you I have not had the privilege of meeting yet. I have done so much riding this summer that I have decided to write my own testimonial. And yes I will be totally honest although how can I not be a little biased, they are after-all my family.
Ground work pays off big time Raising foals.
Wow ! my babies are all grown-up.
Talk about willing, lovable, ridable, go anywhere, well gaited mounts. These 3 are a real joy. My breeding program shows these results.
Pictured right - Dominic Being Backed. This is the first time anyone has been on him. My riding friend "Sharon" ( yes another one!" ) is up on him and daughter Angela is leading. I'm doing the photography and waiting for "The Rodeo" , Which didn't happen.
Excellent ground work and preparation made this first mounting a breeze. He rode out on his own and never a flinch or fuss. The next week we went on the roads and trails. We exposed him to cars, honking horns, bridges, met 5 Rotweilers, un-groomed trails, strange horse companions, loaded, unloaded, planes, helicopters, motorcycles, you name it and we met it.
You would have thought he was a well seasoned horse. What a great guy. He made me so proud of him and my breeding program.

Canowindra Sedona's Cantadora...big name, big dream! Was I expecting to buy a horse when I did? No, although, as I told Sharon, I had everything for a horse, right down to a horse door-knocker (I just didn't have the horse or the door!). I made a decision that the horse was more important....I could buy a house later. It's the old story of "since I was a little girl". I was going to have a horse, it was going to be red with a blond mane and tail, and I would call him, "Red Challenge"! Well, it is a she and she is red with blond mane and tail, but her name is Sedona's Cantadora. Sedona, for the most beautiful spot in Arizona, with it's glorious red mesa rocks, and cantadora, which is Spanish for storyteller. And together we are going to have many stories to tell.....how I came with my friends Gail and Gail to visit Sharon and Craigs' farm, fell in love with the gentle "Rocky Mountains" AND with the warm and caring personalities of Sharon and Craig! I've had the luxury of working with my little filly with Sharon and Craig giving me "horsemanship lessons 101", and real hands on work with Sedona. The separation of babies from mommy's is traumatic in any mammals' life, but what I experienced at Canowindra farm was amazing. With the exception of some furtive looks outside the stable and whinnying, the little one's coped so well that I could only think it was the ambiance of the farm itself that allowed such a traumatic experience in the animal world to be very gentle and kind. It is always hard to describe to someone who sees a horse as just a horse, or a dog as just a dog, how deep my feelings run for animals of all kinds. From my earliest childhood memories with my father, who also loved horses, and Saturday mornings at the show watching Roy Rogers and his faithful horse Trigger, I wanted a relationship with a horse. Hollywood or not, I am looking forward to the day when the trust Sedona and I have built between us will be firmly planted and we ride off into the sunset, (or, down my dear friend Gail's, Horses R Us trail). You can bet you will be hearing me sing, "Happy Trails To You......" Thank you Sharon

Hey there Sharon !
How are you doing? When I bought my horse from you 3 years ago... Holiday Star, I intended to use him for endurance and competitive trail. It's been a long three years of training him. But all my hard work paid off. We did our first 25 mile Competitive Trail Ride on the 22nd of May. I worked long and hard to condition him. My girlfriend and my parents came and crewed for me. My girlfriends organized a "going racing" party for me the night before, to which they invited my boyfriend. They all came to my house, and then we went to a movie. We finished packing at 1:30 am, and the alarm clock went off at 3:30 am. We pulled out of the barn following the trailer to Sandaraska Park at 5:30 am. Vetting started at 6:30 am, and the pre-ride talk was at 8:30. We vetted clean. The poor vet was freaked *it's feet are going in 18 different directions, but it's back is flat, so we'll call it sound". It was pretty comical ! As a novice I had 5 and a half hours to complete the course, and I was partnered with a woman in the open division. Holiday was amazing- better than I could have ever imagined he would be. Dead to the world, didn't care that there were electrolytes being syringed into his mouth, that he had never eaten beet pulp before and he enjoyed it, and that he didn't know any of the people that were poking and prodding at him. I finished the course in 5 hours, when we did the 1/2 mile trot in (gait in for us) his pulse was 48 beats per min and his resting was 44 BPM. I was so proud. I couldn't stay for awards, so I had a friend take home my things for me. I checked the web site for the ride results today and lo and behold... I Placed fourth!!!!!!! I actually cried I was so happy.
Holiday at the race is listed in the pictures as his show name, Never Surrender. I thought it would be a fitting name, because we never gave up in the race. I hope you're happy for the little three year old who is now a fine-tuned athletically inclined six year old!
I'm the minority at the barn. I got laughed at until I bought home my pretty ribbon and a completion certificate of 25 competitive miles… with 5.5 penalty points with first having 3.5 penalty points. I am so proud of him it's amazing ! It floors me even more because I trained him - Just me ! I'm smiling just to think about it.

Courtney has accomplished all this at just 17yrs of age , and Holiday has been accepted into the Therapeutic Riding Assoc for next year..

Just wanted to give you an update on Canowindra's Gemini Warning and Canowindra's C-Biscuit!
We have done a lot of work over the last couple of months and let me tell you. They are doing awesome!
We have had both the girls on the road/highway, in town, over bridges: they have been exposed to transport trucks, cars, cement trucks, gravel trucks, motorcycles, dirt bikes, ATV's, you name it. We have exposed them to almost everything. As you can see by the pictures, there isn't anywhere they won't go. People in town laugh at us , we are the entertainment in town.
Gemini is at the gas pumps ready to serve! Gem and Biscuit welcome you to Stayner: Biscuit also welcomes you to Stayner Pet Center. When they are on the highway, you can see that the traffic doesn't bother them at all. We have even had them on the trails crawling over downed trees and going through tight places where deer would only go.
It doesn't happen over night: all this takes hours of work and trust on the part of your horse. If done right you will have a horse that not only can go in the show ring but also on the road and in town for coffee if you wish. WE wish more people would take the time to make their horses the best that they can be!!!
Love and trust go hand in hand. We haven't come across many horses that will do what our lovely girls will do. If anyone has one and has put that time into he/she, we commend you. You have to love what you are doing in order to make the time to do it and do it right.
Thank you once again, Sharon for our wondrous girls.
Dave and Candace.

Smokie got the works yesterday, a bath, mane and tail, mane elasticized in sections to keep to one side. Hooves painted, the works. What a handsome man he is ! I love his dark colour when he is wet, then he fades to a more milk chocolate. I can't thank you enough for letting him go to us. He is so much fun and he is so beautiful.

Dear Sharon,
I realized how wonderful you were to help me find Carma. I want to properly thank you for all your help, emails and phone calls.
You must have an exceptional farm operation and I am privileged to work with you.
I just melt when Molly gives me that slow turn-and-gaze with those gorgeous soft eyes, and cute little Lily always looking for something to do or eat.
Thank you so much for choosing them for me.
You have given me a wonderful gift.
Thank you so much, I look forward to our continued association, regards Laurette
Sharon truly thanks Laurette for her confidence and trust in purchasing 3 new pals

Dear Sharon:
Well, you did it once again! You have definitely blessed me with "my perfect horse". I thought you outdone yourself when we purchased "Canowindra's Gemini Warning". As you know, I have given "Gemini" to my husband, Dave. "Gemini" is absolutely gorgeous; she is just taller than I was hoping for.
I know I have been somewhat of a pain, Ha! Ha!, but when I called you, Sharon, and you asked me to tell you exactly what I was looking for, you came up with my "dream girl!" I now have the honour of owning "Canowindra's C Biscuit". I know this was not an easy sale for you, Sharon, but I can't Thank you enough for her. I just love her to pieces. I know I had originally told you that I didn't really want another yearling, but my goodness, "Biscuit" is everything I had hoped to find.
As usual, after doing more research before purchasing "Biscuit", I now truly know why we came back to you for our second Mountain Horse. Your horses are truly amazing. Not only do you focus on temperament and gait, but you and Craig truly do care about your horses and where they go, and you go out of your way to find the horse that is most suitable to the purchaser. In my case, you really outdid yourselves, not once, but twice.
I am so glad we were blessed to find one of the nicest, most sincere and dedicated people in the horse industry that we now consider our friend.
We definitely would not hesitate to refer anyone that is considering a Rocky or Kentucky Mountain horse. If they want the best, then "Canowindra" is the place to go!! Hats off to you for making my dream a reality.
Sincerely (and still in a dream world!)

Dear Sharon :
WOW!!! I don't know where to begin! I guess I was really surprised, Sharon, that you remembered me from approx. 3 years ago when Dave and I first met you at the Coldwater Rodeo. You had your stallion in the parade behind the Paso Finos. How impressive he was and is. He was so calm and so absolutely gorgeous. Dave and I were in awe watching him. That was the first time I spoke to you about the breed. I know I had contacted you intermittently but could never seem to have the funds. Over the past few years I have purchased other horses; not saying they weren't nice; just not exactly what I wanted. I was to the point that I wasn't even sure what I wanted anymore. Dave kept telling me to get my Rocky Mountain, and for some strange reason, I kept talking myself out of it. I bought what I thought was what I wanted; a black and white Pinto colt. He was gorgeous. But I still couldn't get your horses out of my mind. Needless to say, I finally contacted you again September 2003 to see if you had anything available and the cost. I did more research and spoke to other breeders, but my heart told me to contact you again and see about a visit to your farm. I dragged my daughter, Amber, up with me because I knew I would get lost; and sure enough I did; but we did find your home and were so welcomed, it was like I had known you forever. Your honesty and sincerity was greatly appreciated. The time you spent with us was a wonderful experience. We went out to the paddock and seen the Moms and babies and you showed me "Sunshine." She was beautiful. It wasn't until I told you, Sharon, how I like "different" that you showed me my "Gemini". WOW!!! I fell in love with her. Your web site said she was rare; you weren't kidding. After we visited the horses, you showed Amber and myself the videos of the Rocky, Kentucky Mountain horses; now all the more reason for me to have one. When Amber and I left, I couldn't believe the feeling I got from you both. It was wonderful! I didn't feel like you were just trying to sell me just anything, you wanted to make sure I was really getting what I wanted. Like I said before, your honesty and sincerity is not found in many people. It was a great pleasure to have visited with you.
When Amber and I got home, I couldn't stop talking about you both and about "Gemini" to my husband, Dave. He said I should just call you and tell you I wanted her. I really wanted Dave to go up and see "Gemini" and both of you to see what his thoughts were. He couldn't have agreed more in regards to you both. You are so wonderful. Dave most definitely agreed with me in regards to "Gemini". You took so much time with us and were so informative and helpful in regards to this breed. We have had other breeds, but these are definitely different in a good way. So, yes, I was sold on my "Gem". Needless to say, you delivered my girl October 4, 2003 and I couldn't have been happier. I think I was flying higher than a kite!!! Everyone that has seen "Gemini" comments on her color and more so, her amber eyes. She is definitely SPECIAL!!
I have had "Gemini" about 5 weeks now and am loving her more every day. We have had her on the road and up on the main highway, on trails, around the pond, on tarps, she has even wore an orange tarp. We go for walks and she enjoys walking into the outside dog kennel. Sometimes she seems to like it so much in there that she doesn't want to come out. I can hardly wait until she is old enough to be ridden. I am just so thrilled to have finally listened to my husband, Dave, and get the horse I have wanted for so long. I can't thank you enough for making this dream possible.
Dave, Amber and I thoroughly enjoyed the time you spent with us. We thank you for your hospitality and most of all for your honesty and friendship, which we hope will grow thanks to these wonderful horses. God Bless you !!

I Love him to pieces!!!
He is absolutely wonderful and so well-mannered!
I have never had a horse that led so wonderfully...
he's almost like a dog heeling the way he moves with you - it is great!!! He is gorgeous, gorgeous!
He has a sweet personality, there is just no way I could have chosen better in person. You did an outstanding job helping me with the choosing and an even more outstanding job working on his manners. He is delightful!
He trailered like a pro, he loaded and unloaded equally well. He's settled in beautifully.
The vet said to tell you that you've done a wonderful job with him! He hasn't ever worked on such a well-mannered baby!

Update on Granite
Granite & I had a great walk yesterday in the woods. Flushed out some partridge, walked through water ( yes, he can actualy walk on water)
Granite continues to be the best horse ever!
He is now, as a weanling had my 2 1/2 year old on his back. Granite stood like a rock while Seth sat up there, then my 17 month old wanted to sit up there too and he was still a peach! We didn't go anywhere, he just let them sit. He really seems to like kids already.

I have always dreamed of having a horse since I was a little girl. Some dreams take a little longer to happen. I have a lower back injury which causes me some problems so I was dreading that I would have to give up my dream of finally having my own horse until I heard about the Rocky Mountain Horse and how smooth their gait was. I found Sharon's web site and I was sold on her horses. Now came the hard part, getting up the courage to inquire about the horses, I shouldn't have been worried, she made me feel instantly at ease and her horses have such wonderful temperaments. Sharon answered all of my questions openly when I went to visit her in November to see a 6 month colt that was available. He was beautiful, it must have been kismet as his name was "Dream".
Sharon has been such a great support always willing to impart the benefit of her experiences and knowledge. She is always very positive when talking to me and I always feel better having talked to her.
I've learned a lot and I'm still learning from them. Not only have I realized my dream of owning such a wonderful horse but I've made a lasting friendship.
Sincerely

Dear Sharon :
We want to thank you for making such a special day for our children when we came to show Ascacia her new foal. You where very kind to show the kids all the horses again and then to have Molly and Chelsey (Rose) hidden in the barn. The kids were overwhelmed. They just couldn't believe it! Ascacia has slept with the foals picture under her pillow every night since that day. It is a dream come true for her. Our other 3 kids are just as excited to have the new pair arrive. They are quite good around our horse and ponies and can't wait to love and care for Molly and her foal.
Again, we thank you for more than a business deal. We thank you for your personal concern and effort to have Molly and Rose come to our home.
Sincerely, Randy and Lynn

Dear Sharon ,
This letter is in appreciation for introducing us to this wonderful breed of horse.
Although I did a fair bit of riding in my youth (we're 50ish now), I really don't know much about horses, and I'm not a good rider. My husband has never been particularly fond of horses in general, and doesn't ride at all.
I work for a Community Development organization. We mainly engage in economic development projects, but we also have a mandate to do some work in the social development area. Youth have been targeted as a high priority in the community, so we needed to find a program that would have the potential to really make a difference in the lives of these kids. As I would have to run this program, I decided to look for something that interested me as well. After much research on the Internet, we decided that a Horsemanship Program for Youth at Risk would fill the bill.
|
|
Then I began researching breeds of horses that might be most suitable for the program, and took a particular interest in the Rocky/Kentucky Mountain Breed. After looking at an exhausting list of websites, the one that really caught my attention was CANOWINDRA. So I e-mailed Sharon to see if we could come & see her horses and get some information.
Of course, she was in the middle of haying, and Sharon was getting ready for company, but since we had traveled a fair distance, she graciously made the time for us. My husband dropped me off - he wasn't having any part of this! Sharon told me to jump on the back of the 4 wheeler, took my purse on me so the horses wouldn't "rob" me of keys, etc., and drove me out to the pasture where we were amongst a herd of mares and foals. I thought, they can't possibly expect that I'm going in there! A little bit of panic struck, due to a couple of bad experiences within a herd setting in the past. I didn't want to let on, of course, so I gingerly ducked under the electric fence & went in.
The whole herd immediately surrounded us. Everyone looking for a pat & a bit of attention. No fighting, no biting, no kicking. Just really gentle, affectionate animals that were absolutely gorgeous, with the characteristic long manes and tails. Even the babies were well behaved, but very nosey!
We went back to the house, and by this time, my husband had returned to pick me up. In no time, Sharon had him out of the car, over meeting & actually petting Kawlidga, who was in the corral behind the house. He was absolutely gorgeous and so friendly. Then Sharon took us into another pasture where their other stallion, Cheyenne Warning was. He just stood there quietly, waiting for his bit of attention, too. I've always been afraid of stallions - nice to look at, but stay away. We were so amazed at the gentleness. And what a beauty he was!
We went into the house, watched a video on Rockies, and were supplied with lots of information. I asked all my "stupid" questions, but Sharon patiently answered them all. My husband was duly impressed - not a small feat when it came to horses!
While we couldn't afford to buy one at the time, I knew in my heart that one day this dream would come true.
That was last July. Then on a Saturday in mid-November, out of the blue, I got a call from Sharon. "Bonnie, I have the perfect horse for you - and she's in foal. But I need an answer by tomorrow night."
I told Sharon I appreciated her call, but I just didn't have the money, and nowhere to keep her.
Sharon explained again how quickly these horses are sold and at this special price (our budget was limited) we'd be smart to act fast.
The guys were in the back yard skinning a deer. I went running out and yelled at my husband that Sharon from Canowindra called, has the perfect horse for us & it's pregnant, but it cost ***. He more or less grunted to go find a place to keep it then, if this would keep me quiet for awhile.
All kinds of running around in a panic, and phone calls for 2 days till we found a boarding place. By Sunday night, after several phone calls back & forth with Sharon, we ended up buying 2 mares, and convinced some friends to buy one too.
We now have a great little mare and she is an absolute doll! For some strange reason, she took a real shine to my husband, and he to her, right from the beginning. That's his "baby girl".
My "perfect" Kentucky mare blessed us with the most beautiful little colt you could imagine on April 3rd.
Since November, Sharon has been there for us every step of the way. Always some good advice, and a kind word of encouragement. And regular "checking in" to see how things were going.
There's been a lot of stress and bumps along the way. It's not always easy boarding at someone else's place. We hope to have our "little family" moved home by the end of the summer. They're in training now, getting a little tune up to ride.
Hopefully by Spring, we'll have our Horsemanship Program up and running - and these beauties will be at the core. They are well-mannered, love people, especially kids, so we couldn't be happier. Seems like the perfect fit.
The really amazing thing is the attitude adjustment in my husband & sons, who are all avid hunters. They're only used to being around animals that size when carrying a 30-06!
Sharon - you have managed to bring some real joy into our lives, and we hope to be able to share that with a lot of kids in the future. Sharon - you really pushed my buttons that day you called last November.
Our sincere gratitude to you for everything - all the help, advice, the friendship, and especially for letting me cry on your shoulder when I really needed it! We truly hope the friendship carries on for our lifetime. Sharon, and her horses have changed our lives.
We are thankful for Sharon's strong encouragement for a quick decision to purchase this grouping. Look at our gorgeous colt "Thunder". ( Lawson T. Moses colt)
Best regards,
Bonnie & Ritchie

We have always had a deep love for horses, for myself though I had a great fear of them. Luigi and I met approximately 2 years ago. During our first conversation it became apparent that we both shared this love for horses. As the months passed we began taking riding lessons together. On a few occasions Luigi could barely walk due to back pain from the posting trot.
We expressed our interest and discouragement in riding with my brother ( Merritt ) who suggested we might NOT be dealing with the right type of horse.
He recommended looking into the Rocky Mountain Horses, due to their temperament, gait and size. So began our Internet search thus contact with Canowindra Farm and Sharon and Craig. Luigies comment to me was "don't take me to see horses, I'll want one," well he got two, in fact I came with the package so he got 3. We got engaged shortly thereafter. Our two were born on May 3rd and
May 14th, both, the birth dates of Luigies two daughters. While waiting for the foals to be born we read material and watched videos. We were convinced that "Imprinting" was what we wanted to do. So the waiting began. When the foals were due Sharon spent some very late evenings on straw bails providing drinks and snacks while we were anxiously waiting the first arrival. Sharon has been most accommodating and patient with us. She allowed us the opportunity to do the "Imprinting" on Sardegna the filly, (Our First). Anytime we had a concern Sharon was right there to inform and encourage us. As Luigi says one thing that impressed us was the fact we were continuously informed regarding the babies as to how they were doing and any changes with them. As well her teaching us valuable lessons. For instance what to do and what not to do i.e.: give them treats from the hand. Not allowing the little ones to push us around. When Bello Selvaggio was gelded they contacted us regarding his progress throughout the day.
Because of our being such novices, at times we felt we were a nuisance, their comment to us was: "no you are not a nuisance, it is our concern as well". Something that convinced us that Sharon is interested in the welfare of her foals is the fact that she insists on seeing where these little ones will be living. This made us appreciate how important it is to take care of these animals. This increased our sense of responsibility toward these little ones, and that Sharon would not sell their foals to just anybody. Since my brother, Merritt introduced us to this breed we looked to him as a resource. He was interested in seeing the farm. After spending some time at Canowindra his comment to Luigi and I was: "You can be confident to purchase ANY one of these horses, all of them are good at this farm."
Over the past months we have come to view Sharon as not only caring, competent and well informed but also a friend. By the way Luigi and I were married August 3rd.

When I had to put down my 32 year old best friend two years ago, I thought my horse days were over. Omar was sweet and intelligent. It seemed like he could read my mind. He got me through some tough personal times and even seemed to enjoy my singing when we rode. He never gave me any trouble and was never sick a day in the over twenty years that we were together. Being in my late forties, I thought that's it, I'll never have that again and I am not young enough, confident enough or experienced enough to deal with another horse. My daughter moved her horse to a friend's farm. It was over. But fate has a funny way of changing your life.
My daughter has always been involved with horses. I am a sideline spectator. We talked horses, read about horses but I thought I would now only enjoy horses through her. Then a funny thing happened. Twice. We were out on our deck when we heard a horse whinny. The same type of whinny that used to greet us from the back field when we would open the side door to go out. Incredulously, we looked at each other, knowing that it couldn't be. But it was close enough to go running for a halter and lead line. We tromped through the field and adjacent woods trying to locate and follow the sound that was so close and repeated but were never successful. Both times this happened, there were no other horses in the area. All were accounted for.
This only made me more lonesome. I started reading about horse breeds: maybe there was one I could handle. Then I came across an article featuring the Rocky Mountain Horse. A horse for the whole family. easy keepers, easily trained, loves being around people and so even tempered that a child could ride a stallion. And a gait called a glide-wonderful for a bad back. These horses can make a bad rider look good. Further investigation led me to Canowindra. I liked what I saw, but did not have the courage to call for another few months. WE are not an upper class horsey family with oak stalls in our stable. Our horses wintered outdoors under two lean-tos. They were never shod, only trimmed regularly, and I preferred riding with a hackamore.
The first time I spoke with Sharon she put me at ease. I knew that I didn't make a mistake. She felt like a kindred spirit. She was actually interested in what I wanted and hearing what I had to say. Our visit with Sharon was at busy haying time but she still spent the afternoon with us answering questions, showing her stock and what the Rocky Mountain horse is all about. We were in awe. Sharon was extremely knowledgeable about horses and training, and are willing to share her experiences with you. Not onlydoes she care about her animals, She truly cares about people. She doesen't sell horses, she is a matchmaker. There is no pressure, just friendly guidance. she will accommodate you however she can. And her relationship does not end with the sale. I think that she may be in our lives for a long time to come. And I have an inkling that another match may be made sometime in the future.
I have a new little boy that already has a special place in my heart. He is beautiful, sweet and intelligent. I already recognize a bit of a comedian in him. He is a good listener and I think that he likes singing. The first day after delivery, he called to me as I came out the side door.
Maybe I am wrong. Maybe this match was made in heaven after all !
To our angel, Sharon: Thank you so much !
Chris, Deryck, Katrina and Pookie.

Dear Sharon :
Owning and raising a horse has been a dream I have carried with me since my youth. Don and I would like to thank you for your patience, support and assistance in helping me realize my dream with Dacotah.
Being first time horse owners, we have had to make numerous preparations and adjustments. We have looked to you for guidance, answers to our questions and advice in all areas of horse care. Always with a friendly smile, you have given freely of your time and knowledge. We were especially pleased with your plans for a "Run in Shelter" that enabled us to proceed more effectively in preparing a safe environment for `Dacotah'
Thank you for being there and sharing with us.

I had sustained a fairly serious back injury and thought my riding days were over. I had heard of Rocky Mountain horses and stumbled across Canowindra Farms in a horse magazine that I had picked up at our local Co-op.
It was so close to our home that I immediately called to set up an appointment to see these Rocky Mountain Horses.
Right from the beginning Sharonwas great ! She spent at least two hours with us, explaining about the history of the breed, her farm, Stallions, and brood mares.
She really care about the breed and all of her horses. She wants satisfied customers and spend a lot of time listening and getting to know what their customers wants and needs are.
After we purchased our babies, she continued to be available, offering very helpful suggestions. Our babies are incredibly beautiful, and came to us well socialized and very easy to handle.
Sharon remains available for any concerns we may have and are very supportive and helpful.
We are having a ball with our new babies and would recommend Canowindra Farms for the best Rocky Mountain Horses found anywhere.

Dear Sharon :
Hello: I would like to thank you for all your help. Our horse Poman is as sweet as you promised, you gave me your word, and we are so happy with him. Because he is the first Kentucky Mountain horse in our area I had to have a lot of faith in you Sharon. I am not good at buying horses unseen. You gave me the option to change our mind if he did not meet our expectations. All of our particular requirements for training and shipping where met. All of us would like to thank you for making this purchase a sweet experience. We expect to have a long list of admirers by the time our farm is fully operational. Thank you all.
PS We look foreword to our filly and have no doubt our next purchase will be as wonderful. All of us thank you once more …..

Dear Sharon:
I had been searching for a horse for a long time. I knew what I wanted in a horse, but was unsure of the breed. Some friends of mine told me about gaited breeds and I decided to go to the Erin Fall Fair where they were having a gaited horse demonstration. I talked to the owners of the various breeds represented there and the gentle temperament of Sharon's Rocky Mountain Horses really fascinated me.
After visiting their farm and having her welcome my family and I into her home, we discussed what I had wanted in a horse and I decided on purchasing a foal. When Kismet was born I was elated with the news (I was literally speechless).
Sharon has been great offering useful advice I can use throughout his training once I get him home. It's been quite evident that Sharon loves this breed and take the time to make sure the horse and new owner are well suited to each other. Kismet has that great temperament this breed is known for and though his personality is only just starting to become his own, I can tell that he and I are matched perfectly to one another.I can't wait to get to know him even better once he's home with me.
Thank you Sharon for your wonderful hospitality and advice. I will definitely be returning to you for another of these great horses.
Sincerely Janine

Dear Sharon : I am a satisfied customer ! No, that's not even close - it's more like euphoria and it's because of a little two year old Rocky who hasn't got a devious thought in her gorgeous little head. As you know, during the past few years, I've become a nervous rider, due in part to a collision with a gravel road from atop an unprovoked bucking horse. After researching virtually every breed, the gentle temperament of the rocky Mountain Horse really intrigued me. I admit to being somewhat skeptical and wondering if I should just hang out with rabbits and forget about riding horses with my fears always in the foreground. But, I was brought up with Roy Rogers and needed to find my Trigger.Sharon answered all our questions and we where impressed with Sharon's safe horse-conscious facility. It is so obvious that you love the animals and provide wonderful care, while at the same time, working with your horses to have them respond willingly and trustingly to human demands & commands. You listened to our needs and suggested the right horse for us. Hershee has been a member of our family for less than two weeks and has given me confidence and joy. And tonight we actually LOPED!! I have experienced the smooth gaited horses and it is wonderful. Total freedom! Part of us is waiting for the drugs to wear off - we cannot believe how cool she is around new things - she never spooks. Everything you said about this breed is true. She's my little dream horse, and my friend already. I believe the credit must be shared equally by her own gentle nature and you, who handled and nurtured her so extremely well.
Thank you so very much.

Sharon's passion, enthusiasm and true love for the Rocky Mountain Horses was certainly evident to us in the patience and time she took in
matching our family with two of her colts. Sharon opened her farm, home and heart to us to ensure that we made the right choice for both us, and
the horses. She took the time to explain many of the preparatory needs, feeding guidelines and care that we will have to make prior to the delivery of the
colts this fall. It was a true joy to talk with someone as interested in the breed and rider, as the business end of the transaction. Her honesty, concern and forthright approach assured us that we have made the right decision.
Blessings and peace. Yours in faith and friendship, Sharon

When Sharon at Canowindra say that "Matching horse and rider is important to us" these are not empty words. I think next to being sure that her horses would be well treated this was the most important thing to her.
After my first conversation with Sharon. I knew that she was the type of horse person I wanted to deal with. Having bred and raised Halflingers in the past it was wonderful to talk to someone else who put as much love and care into their horses as we had. I have to admit that when Sharon asked what my budget was, I was a bit taken back. I was not sure I wanted to admit that I had no budget fearing that
the price would be inflated. I need not have worried. She listened very carefully to what I wanted in a horse. I am very short and did not want a huge horse. She had just the fella for me. No he was not her most expensive horse. On the contrary he was probably the lowest priced. Her objective was not to sell me the most expensive horse, but the horse that she thought would be most suited to my needs. Because she treated me so fairly we also purchased a second horse from her. When we went to see my sweetheart, my daughter spotted Quintana and fell in love. That is all she talked about and no other horse would do.
We have had the horses for about a month now and are just thrilled with both of them. They are the smartest, most easy going horses I have ever met. Things that would take weeks to teach another horse they pick up in 5 minutes. I thought Halflingers were calm and easy to work with, but these guys are even more laid back. They are very curious fellas and want to see everything your doing. While my husband was installing a feed dish, Coco Bean who is not even 2 yet, had to be right in there helping. He didn't bat an eye at the pounding of the hammer. Quintana wanted to help film the video we were making of the two of them. He had to stick his nose right on the lens, to check it out. Coco Bean has learned his flexion exercises so well that when you are brushing his tail, holding it out to the side, he automatically turns his head to touch his nose to his tail. What a good boy.
Quintana handles like an old trail horse.
When we were first told that you don't need to buy an older gelding to get a calm reliable horse, my first thought was " yah right ". But true to her word, you really don't. I can hardly wait to ride Coco Bean, but in the meantime I sure am enjoying working with him. We have saddled him and it was a non event. He turned his head looked at it and yawned.
If you are looking for a comfortable ride, great companion, responsive horse, that will follow you around like a dog, these are the horses for you.
We love our guys and wouldn't part with them.

I am a fifty-something year old woman with a history of congenital dislocated hips. Six years ago I sold my quarter horse mare when I had to have bilateral hip replacements thinking I probably wouldn't be able to ride again, (or at least so my surgeon recommended). After my surgeries, I tried riding again and discovered much to my relief that I could still ride but I did not have, nor ever had for that matter, a good "seat" to ride in a conventional manner. When I heard about gaited horses I did some investigating figuring that this could be the answer form me. After considering a couple of breeds I heard about the Rocky Mountain Horse and what wonderful, quiet dispositions they had. They sounded too good to be true to an aging boomer like myself I called Sharon at Canowindra Farms and made an appointment to go out and meet these amazing horses. I was very impressed by their forthrightness and sensible nature. When I started my search I was determined to find the right personality for me, one that would be forgiving of my restrictions. When I met Johnathan's Joker I felt I had met a friend. Also I have to mention that Sharon was as forthright and honest as the horses she sells. Sharon was very hospitable, helpful and supportive with every visit. She has a wonderful quiet method of gentling her foals, which ensures them a good start. I won't be able to bring John home here to our farm until May, but I am looking forward to many years of trail riding and driving my Rocky Mountain Horse.

I just bought a 4 year old Rocky Mountain/Kentucky Mountain horse from Sharon at Canowindra. I have bad knees, and found riding the QH Appy I had part-boarded was getting harder to ride. So I decided to do some research and came up with Gaited horses. I had heard almost nothing about this rare breed, and seeing articles on the Internet about it intrigued me, so I started reading up on them.
A friend of mine had told me about Canowindra because he himself had bought two horses from Sharon . After looking at the horses she had for sale, I decided to check out HOLIDAY STAR. He sounded quite promising. After arriving at Canowindra (on crutches from a fall earlier that day) I was greeted by Sharon, who was honestly concerned if I was okay.
After I had ridden Star, Sharon had invited the 4 of us into her home to watch videos of the horses and to see what their gait looked like. I was amazed at how hospitable Sharon was, offering us drinks and inviting us into her home.
Star is very willing and he follows me around when I walk around his paddock. His gait is the smoothest thing I have ever ridden, and it is very kind to my knees. Sharon has been helpful with training tips and feeding ideas, as well as how to get him to bond with me. I can't believe how much she taught me about this amazing breed!

After numerous visits to many types of medical professionals, the arthritis in my back had finally caused my doctor to recommend that I give up
horseback riding. I had reluctantly decided that perhaps this advice was best until I saw my first Rocky Mountain Horse do his stuff at the Royal
Winter Fair in Toronto. After much investigation into gaited horses, I decided to purchase from Canowindra. My horse is an 8 year old gelding whose effortless gait and calm temperament make trail riding a true pleasure. I am fortunate to be able to ride almost every day for 2 to 3 hours at a time, and I never find this tiring or difficult. He is always calm and a joy to be around. He comes to me from the paddock and has absolutely no vices. We sometimes ride with other horses and often cover unfamiliar trails. In all circumstances he is calm and extremely well behaved.

Diary of my first Rides
Rode in the ring, all very responsive, not sure about my disabled ramp but we are working on that.
Rode in the ring again, with our mare (in heat) - He is really preoccupied with our mare, then Oh No - he is rearing ! --- wrong! He mounted her while we rode, in full view of the neighbors yet! So my husband got his mare moving real fast. The neighbors comment "Your looking real good Collette"
My husbands comment was " he's so gentle about it I had no clue, Geez"
We both rode another ½ hour "In opposite directions" with no more problems except I couldn't stop giggling. I think we must have written the song, " Never on Sunday" Got a stallion for sale?
Riding again: Can't take any more Ring Riding so we are going on the trails. Husband a little leery with me but away we go down the road, car goes by - No sweat!
I'm in the lead ( no repeat mounting performance desired)
Well you would think he was born here. Took to the trails like a trooper. He must be a bushwhacker like me. Rode ½ -1 hour to end on a positive note.
Off again, we are in the lead again, piles of junk here and there, big old scary black stumps, different trails, hydro plant let of their "Sonie Boom" - No sweat at any of it. Never bat an eyelash. Part of the trail underwater about 300' long, he smells, snorts, and in we go, - No sweat ! Rode over an hour. Returned with mare in lead (uneventful)
This guy is going to be a fantastic mount, perfect size, willing and so trusting.
Everyone finds it funny that with all the pain, I just can't give up riding ( I think I was born part horse ). Today is a chair day for me, can't walk without falling, but it's raining so that's okay.
I have the gift of riding on the nice "good days". Thanks Sharon - My life is full

Dear Sharon,
Just a note to tell you how very happy I am with my beautiful baby, TAYLOR MADE. She is a joy. We have had a great time riding the trails around here and have joined the ONTARIO TRAIL RIDING ASSOCIATION, and look forward to more trail riding this coming summer.
She has such a great personality and disposition, everything I believe Kentucky Mountain horses are known for. She's like a big puppy following me around and nosy as anything. She comes right into the garage with my dogs or up on our deck out back. I love her dearly.
Thanks for taking the time with us and being so helpful. I want you to know she has a great home here. I've sent a couple of pictures of both of us for your files.
Look forward to seeing you soon.
Sharon
Please note : Taylor Made is just a 2 year old

Anticipating retirement within two years and an avid trail rider, I was in the market for a smoother ride than my present two horses were providing. Having read & researched multitudes of articles I came to the conclusion the Rocky Mountain horse best suited my future needs. My first conversation with Sharon at Canowindra was most pleasant as well as informative and reaffirmed my interest in this breed. My husband & I received a very warm welcome upon our arrival and after a tour of their facilities were convinced this was indeed the breed for us. We were impressed with the quality of horses, their care and the imprinting that had been done. I fell in love with a 2 year old bay gelding named Sunrise and have not regretted the decision to purchase him. Not only is he gorgeous, but is everything I read & was told about the breed. He has a wonderful temperament, is an easy keeper & a very willing learner. The gait is awesome & my knees don't ache after riding . You won't be disappointed in the service that Canowindra provides. Sharon is committed to satisfying her clients requirements by providing quality trained stock at competitive prices. Once you've ridden a Rocky, you will never go back to another breed. It is truly the " Glide Ride "

Dear Sharon:
I just wanted you to know how pleased I am with my new horse Top Gun. Every time I look at him he puts a smile on my face. He is so well tempered and a pleasure to be around. I am having a lot of fun with him. I will never forget the afternoon you showed me around Canowindra. You have a very beautiful place. I asked you so many questions that day about Kentucky Mountain Horses and you took the time to answer them all with such detail. Top Gun will be 2 years old soon and he is so easy to work with. He is not flighty or high spirited, he is just a wonderful horse. I just can't wait to start riding him. I want to say thank you so much. Sonja

Jim & I purchased 2 of the Kentucky Mountain Horses in the fall of 2000 from Sharon. We admired her sincere love and care of her horses, and the personable way she treated us. It was important to Sharon that her horse needs were satisfactorily met. She followed up by coming up to our farm to see how the horses were doing, at such time we engaged in a great dinner with our new horse friend.
